Refresh {Day 31}

To find this weeks readings and prayer you can click the image above to find out what Thoughts on Dirthas in store for week 5 of Refresh 2012!  I JUST noticed that I didn’t change the week when I was doing lessons this week.  But we are on week 5 not 4!

Day 31 — September 21

Because I really like the lesson’s that Ministry to Children come up with I stopped looking as soon as I saw they had a lesson on Luke 14:12-24.  I encourage you to click HERE to check out the original lesson but I’ve included parts of it below. Intro: Decorate party hats you can use construction paper and staple it into a cone or if you have extra hats around the house you can have them decorate what you have.  If you have extra party supplies you could go all out and decorate for a party.  While doing one of these ask some or all of the following questions:

What do you think these hats are for? Where would Jesus have a party? Who would Jesus want to invite to his party? When was a time you’ve felt left out? Who are people that often are excluded? What should we do for them?

Story: Luke 14 is what we should read in our study.  You can read the whole chapter to your child(ren) if you want, the activities are from Luke 14:12-24.   If you click the link above you will find a puppet script that you could do instead of reading the story from the Bible. Activity:  The following is what Ministry to Children suggests:

Engage children in a service project or craft that involves inviting and/or including others.  One idea would be to help the children create invitations to give to use to invite someone to an event at your church, maybe Easter Sunday activities or worship.  A second option would be to decorate paper lunch bags and donate them to a feeding program that provides sack lunches for homeless or hungry people.  Use your imagination and feel free to do any activity that is relevant to the life of your church and teaches about inviting and including others in some way.

Basically with this activity you can make it as big as you want or keep it low-key.  When I read make an invitation I thought about this summer and the Fancy Day we had and I had the boys make invitations for their Dad to come to supper.  Or you could have your child make an invitation for a friend to come over to play or come to Sunday School.

Prayer:  Have your child(ren) repeat after you. Dear God, Thank you for being an amazing God.  Help us to serve others in ways you would.  Amen.

So I scheduled this post of be published and then I thought “I wonder if there is a book that goes along with this scripture?”  I had to go over to Lectionary Links to find out and guess what?  I found one.  You can click HERE to go read about the connection at Lectionary Links.  You can click the image and it will bring you to the amazon page and you can read more about the book there.  It looks like a great book that tells a story of a Lady being like Jesus.

About bloggingmommyoftwo

I'm a mommy of 2 energetic & amazing boys. Micah is finishing first grade this year and Kai will be 3 in September. I want a place to record stories about our everyday lives. A place to remember the little things and big. A place to tell about the things these 2 teach me about life. And just a place to ramble about what is on my mind at the moment or 3 days ago when I'm finally able to write it out. I am married to an amazing and supportive man. I love to spend time with my family. Whether it's just hanging out, playing, or watching a movie. I also enjoy taking photos, scrapbooking, playing games, reading, and baking to say a few.
